FAQ

1. Am I a good candidate for Facelift?

You may want to consider facelift if you have any of the following: Skin and tissue sagging, deepening of the fold lines between the nose and corner of the mouth, volume deflation with age, jowls developing in the jaw or loose skin at the level of the neck that did not improve with minimally invasive treatments such as lasers, radio-frequency machines and injections.

2. What are the benefits of this surgery?

Facelift surgery lifts and repositions the muscles and the deep sagging tissues, redrapes and tightens the skin without tension, better defines the neck and the jawline , improves and softens the deep folds around the mouth, restores volume loss by fat grafting and improves skin quality by laser skin resurfacing.

3. What type of anesthesia will I have?

Facelift surgery can be performed under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation depending on the patient’s preference.

4. What type of incisions will I have?

Depending on the degree of change you would like to have, your facelift choices include a traditional facelift, mini facelift or a neck lift.
A traditional facelift incision runs along the hairline within the natural contours in front and behind the ears and ends in the lower scalp. A second incision under the chin may be necessary to further improve an aging neck. When a facelift is executed properly without tension on the skin these incisions fade away with time and become barely visible. At The Skin Clinic, we also use laser skin resurfacing to improve the scar outcome.

5. What are the Facelift stigmas that should be avoided?

Pulling the skin during a facelift surgery without treating the underlying structures or pulling the muscles in the wrong direction can lead to one of the following deformities: joker line appearance or deformity (cross cheek depression or tight pulling of the mouth), pexy ears (the downward pulling of the ear) or wide scars. At The Skin Clinic, we treat the deep layers of the face and we work carefully to guarantee a natural result without stigmas.

6. What to expect after the surgery?

It is normal to have swelling and some bruising for a few days after facelift surgery, at The Skin Clinic, we are proud to have developed techniques that reduce them tremendously. The recovery time is typically around 2 weeks during which you should wear a neck bandage, you should also rest and avoid straining for the first 2 weeks.

7. What are the possible complications and risks of facelift?

Complications sometimes occur, but with proper patient preparation, careful execution and follow up we reduce their occurrence and if they ever occur we are able to manage them.
The risks of facelift surgery will be discussed in full details during the consultation.
