Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema)
Atopic dermatitis is a common skin condition in childhood that can continue into adulthood if not managed properly. The cause of atopic dermatitis is multifactorial. Genetic mutations that alter the skin barrier, environmental factors like dust mites, cats, and trigger foods including eggs, soy, wheat, and peanuts can all lead to the red itchy dry patches and flares of atopic dermatitis. At The Skin Clinic, we understand that this condition can cause significant discomfort and impede daily activities. Our team works diligently to identify all potential environmental factors and food triggers to achieve long term recovery.
In addition, we recommend a daily routine that includes hydration with a thick moisturizer directly after showering to promote healthy skin and reduce the likelihood of recurrence. Acute flairs need treatment with topical steroids for a short time or with longer periods of topical immunomodulators.
For those with particularly severe and persistent forms of eczema, we offer long-term treatment options with biomodulator medications or phototherapy. When contact allergy is suspected a patch test can be offered.
At The Skin Clinic, we are dedicated to treating our patients with compassion and providing safe and comfortable treatment plans based on scientific evidence.
