Breast Lift

A breast lift, also known as Mastopexy, is an aesthetic procedure that lifts and repositions sagging breast tissue to improve the shape and the size of the breasts, in addition to delivering a more youthful body contour. It also reduces the size of the areola if needed.
Breast lift surgery improves the shape, projection, and symmetry of the
breasts, better defines the cleavage lines, maximizes the torso, gives the
breasts a more youthful appearance in addition to boosting self-confidence. However, breast lift surgery does not significantly change the size of the breasts. If you want the breasts to look fuller, consider combining breast lift with breast augmentation surgery. And if you want smaller breasts, consider combining breast lift with breast reduction surgery.

You may want to consider breast lift if:

  • You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are sagging or have lost shape and volume mainly after pregnancy or massive weight loss.
  • Your nipples and areolas point downward.
  • You have stretched skin and enlarged areolas.
  • You have a breast that is lower than the other.

FAQ

1. What type of incisions will I have?

Depending on the degree of sagginess we will have to choose between three common incision patterns:
Around the areola.
Around the areola and vertically down from the areola toward the breast fold.
Around the areola, vertically down from the areola toward the breast crease and horizontally along the breast fold.
Over time the incision lines will fade away and become barely visible. The quality of scar depends on many factors such as genetics and exposure to nicotine and sun. At The Skin Clinic we also use laser skin resurfacing to improve the scar outcome.

2. What is an internal bra?

Internal bra relies on different surgical techniques involving a special way of using sutures to secure the inferior pole of the breast. The main purpose of the internal bra is to increase the chest-to-umbilical distance, support the breast tissue so it doesn’t fall with time, and make sure the breasts don’t slide laterally when the patient is lying down.

3. What should I consider before getting a breast lift?
  • Recovery time is typically around 1-2 weeks.
  • You will have scars after the procedure that will be hidden by a bra or swimsuit.
  • If you plan to have children, you may want to postpone your breast lift surgery. Pregnancy may stretch the breasts and reduce their volume, compromising your surgery results.
4. What to expect after the surgery?

It is normal to have swelling and some bruising for a few days after breast lift surgery, at The Skin Clinic we are proud to have developed techniques that reduce them tremendously. The recovery time is typically around 2 weeks during which you should rest and avoid straining.

  • You will feel some pain and discomfort in the first 3-5 days.
  • You will have a temporary change in nipple and skin sensation.
  • You will have to wear a surgical bra for around 2 months.
  • You will be able to return to work 1-2 weeks after the surgery.
  • You should not lift, drive or clean during the first two weeks.
  • It may take several months for the breasts to assume a more natural shape.
  • Incisions will initially look red for 2-3 months then become barely visible with time.
